2023 NEGHL Rivalry Series IHC Holiday Tournament
Tournament Rules

Tournament Scoring:

Game Points: Win 3 Points, 1 point for a Tie, 0 Points for a loss.                       
Period Points: 2 for winning a period, 1 for a tied period, 0 for a lost period = 9 points maximum per game.

 Tie Breakers:

Teams will be ranked within their division by total number of points (i.e. Game Points plus Period Points).In the event of a tie in the standings, final standings will be determined by the following criteria.
  • a. Winner of Head to Head if two teams are tied. (Not applicable if three or more teams are tied)
  • b. Most Wins
  • c. Goal Differential (Five (5) goals maximum differential per game).
  • d. Lowest amount of goals allowed.
  • e. Fewest penalty minutes (please note that a Game Misconduct will equal ten (10) minutes for this tiebreaker)
  • f. Coin toss.

All games will be officiated using USA Hockey game rules.  Referee’s decisions are final.

ROUND ROBIN GAMES

  1. GAME LENGTH:
  • U8/ U10 & U12 Divisions will consist of 3-minute warm-up & 3 x 12 minutes stop time periods.
  • U14, U16, & U19 Divisions will consist of 3-minute warm up & 3 x 15 minutes stop time periods.
  •  All teams NEED to be ready to go at least 15 minutes before game time. You will go on early if we are ahead of schedule.   
  1. If there is a 5 goal or more difference in the third period, the clock will run.     
  2. Penalties will be 1.30 minutes for a minor penalty (1.0 minutes in U10 & U12A Games same as NEGHL), 5:00 minutes for a major penalty and 10:00 minutes for a misconduct penalty. 
    Fighting will result in game misconduct an automatic ejection from the tournament. More than one major penalty or misconduct in the same game will result in ejection from the game and the tournament.
  3. There will be no timeouts in round robin games.
  4. There will be no overtime in round robin games.
  5. Game points:  Three (3) points for a Win, one (1) point for a Tie, and zero (0) points for a loss.
  6. Period Points:  Two (2.0) points for each period won, one (1.0) point for each period tied, zero (0) points for period lost.
  7. Teams will be ranked within their division by total number of points (i.e. Game Points plus Period Points).

PLAYOFF GAMES

1. Same Game Length as Round Robin Games. All teams need to be ready At least 15 Minutes prior and will go on Early if we’re ahead of schedule.

3. One (1) sixty (60) second timeout will be permitted per team in playoff games.  No timeouts in the consolation games.

4. There will be NO overtime or shootout in the Consolation Games.  

5. If tied at the end of regulation play in the Semi-Finals or Finals, teams will play a five (5) minute stop-time 3 vs 3 sudden death overtime period.  If still tied after 1st overtime, teams will go to a 3-person Shoot-Out. If no winner is determined after 3-person shoot-out, teams will do sudden death shootout.  (Cannot use same shooters until you use your entire roster)

7. Shootout:  Teams will shoot in alternating format.   The team with the highest seed will determine which team shoots first.  No player may shoot for a second time until all players remaining in the game (excluding goalies) have had a turn to shoot.  Teams may choose to switch goalies during the shootout.
